Why he might be annoying:

After a year of feuding with Mets chairman M. Donald Grant over Seaver's salary and how the team was being run, Grant traded Seaver to the Reds for four undistinguished players, a trade that ripped out the hearts of Mets fans (June 15, 1977).
The Reds traded Seaver back to the Mets after the 1982 season, but the Mets lost him again when he was claimed by the White Sox after being left unprotected in the free-agent compensation pool prior to the start of the 1984 season.
The White Sox traded him to the Red Sox during the 1986 season, but an ankle injury prevented him from appearing against the Mets in the World Series.
The Red Sox released him after the 1986 season, and he retired the following year after abandoning a comeback attempt with the Mets.
He pitched five one-hitters for the Mets, and twice took no-hitters into the ninth inning, but never pitched a no-hitter for the Mets.

Why he might not be annoying:

He graduated U.S.C. with a degree in geology.
While pitching for USC in 1966, the Atlanta Braves offered him $40,000, but the baseball commissioner voided the offer because they attempted to sign him after the USC baseball schedule had begun. The Mets gained the rights to sign him after winning a lottery with the other teams willing to match the Braves' offer, the Philadelphia Phillies and Cleveland Indians.
He was the Mets' first true star and helped change the team from lovable losers to World Series champions.
His best season was the 1969 season of the 'Miracle Mets,' when he compiled a 25-7 record and a 2.21 ERA to win his first Cy Young Award.
He struck out 19 batters in a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres, including a record 10 in a row to end the game (April 22, 1970).
He struck out 200 or more batters in a record nine straight seasons (1968-1976).
A year after being traded to the Reds, he finally got a no-hitter, in a 4-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on June 16, 1978.
He won the 300th game of his career on August 4, 1985, in a 4-1 victory by the White Sox over the Yankees on Phil Rizzuto Day at Yankee Stadium.
He made a major-league record 16 Opening Day starts.
He was an intelligent, hard-working perfectionist and the quintessential professional.
After the 1969 season he said: 'If the Mets can win the World Series, the United States can get out of Vietnam.'
The Mets retired his uniform number 41 (1988).
He was elected to the Hall of Fame with 98.8% of the votes cast, the highest percentage of all time.
