Why he might be annoying:

    He was a political lobbyist.
His father probably smoothed his entry into politics.
He was ranked by National Journal as the fourth-most conservative U.S. Senator in 2007.
He claimed that President Obama had had told him that border security was politically problematic, quoting the President as saying, 'If we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.'
When The White House rebuked the claim, he walked back his original quote, claiming that it was 'taken a bit out of context.'
He was criticized for stating that performing abortions is 'well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does.'
A spokesperson later claimed the remark 'was not intended to be a factual statement' (leading Stephen Colbert to joke 'you can't call him out for being wrong when he never intended to be right').

Why he might not be annoying:

He has been a fixture of Republican policy leadership posts.
He was recognized by Time magazine as one of America's Ten Best Senators in 2006.
He is the first Arizona Republican to hold that position of Senate Minority Whip.
He was well liked by his constituents and continued to be re-elected by comfortable margins until his retirement.
He was appointed by Governor Doug Ducey to serve in the Senate seat left vacant by the death of John McCain (2018). He opted not to run for the seat again and the seat was filled by Martha McSally.
He is the first person to return to the Senate via appointment since 1975, and the only person to hold both of Arizona's Senate seats.
During his brief return to the Senate, worked to shepherd the Supreme Court nomination of Brett Kavanaugh.
