The Resume

    (January 16, 1901-November 26, 1975)
    Born in Coahuila, Mexico
    Sculptor and model maker
    Middle name is Medina
Created special effects in 'King Kong (1933),' 'Son of Kong (1933), 'The Last Days of Pompeii (1935),' 'The Wizard of Oz (1939),' 'Mighty Joe Young (1949),' 'The War of the Worlds (1953),' '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954),' 'Mary Poppins (1964),' 'Fantastic Voyage (1966),' and 'The Perils of Pauline (1967)'
    Worked with Willis O'Brien

Why he might be annoying:

He went uncredited for most of his filmography.
He worked on the King Kong sequel 'Son of Kong' which bombed.
He reportedly told Willis O'Brien 'I don't wanna work in the movies. I want to be an artist!' the first four times O'Brien tried to recruit him to work on 'Lost World.'
Willis O'Brien received an Oscar for 'Mighty Joe Young' even though he and Ray Harryhausen did most of the actual animation.

Why he might not be annoying:

His family fled Mexico during the outbreak of the Revolution.
His technique revolutionized the stop motion film industry.
He built entire skeletons for his models using dural and latex to make them appear more realistic (hitherto models were almost always made from clay).
He was on the receiving end of anti-Mexican prejudice during his early days in Hollywood (he didn't learn English until his late teens).
He gave his brother Victor work as his assistant when he went to work for RKO.
He opened the door for Latinos to work behind the camera as technicians and artists.
An original 1933 King Kong model he designed/built as used in the film was sold at an auction for $200,000 (November 24, 2009).
