Why he might be annoying:

As a law student, he wrote editorials in the university newspaper defending Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam against charges of anti-Semitism.
The Minnesota State Campaign Finance Board reprimanded him for unreported contributions, discrepancies in cash balances and late filings (2006).
His driver's license has been repeatedly suspended for failure to pay tickets.
The IRS and state tax authorities put liens on his house for failure to pay part of his income tax for five separate years between 1992 and 2000.
He compared the actions of the Bush administration after 9/11 to those of the Nazis after the Reichstag fire.

Why he might not be annoying:

He wrote, 'I wrongly dismissed concerns that they [Farrakhan's remarks] were anti-Semitic. They were and are anti-Semitic and I should have come to that conclusion earlier than I did.'
He was asked by Glen Beck to 'prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.'
He said 'Osama bin Laden no more represents Islam than Timothy McVeigh represented Christianity.'
He told the MOSES interfaith group, 'Religion should be something that unites, rather than divides people.'
