Between 2007 and 2012, he played in the same time as another Steve Smith, who was a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens.
Furthermore, he also shares his name with two other athletes, a baseball coach, a Canadian actor, an 'American Dad!' character and a sports columnist.
He did not play as much and did not record a single touchdown in his first regular season due to a shoulder and knee injury.
He retired from playing career over one month after he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the off season (May 29, 2013).
