First franchise: Salt Lake City, Utah (September 24, 1952)
Founders: Colonel Harland Sanders and Peter Harman
    Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky

Seasoned with Sanders' recipe of 11 herbs and spices
    Slogan: 'It's Finger Lickin' Good!'

Why they might be annoying:

Lets keep it real, their meat is nasty...
They dropped the Finger Lickin' Good slogan after more than 50 years, calling it too 'food centric.'
They traded out their slogan for 'Nobody does chicken like KFC' and (originally) 'So good.'
It's shorthand for racist stereotypes surrounding black Americans and chicken.
Harland Sanders and parent company Heublein Inc. traded lawsuits throughout the 1970's.
They were the target of a PeTA boycott campaign over their chicken processing plants (Kentucky Fried Cruelty).
They tried to come for Popeyes and the Chicken Sandwich by introducing a Fried Chicken-Glazed Donut Sandwich (about as greasy as it sounds).

Why they might not be annoying:

It is the world's second-largest restaurant chain after McDonald's.
In 1987, it became the first Western restaurant chain to open in China.
It's a Christmas tradition in Japan to eat KFC.
It popularized chicken in fast-food, challenging the hamburger's established stranglehold over the industry.
Colonel Sanders used to make unannounced visits to franchises and, if the food disappointed him, would denounce it as 'God-damned slop' (that eventually got him sued).
The exact Herb and Spice Blend for KFC's Original Chicken is more guarded than the Krabby Patty Secret Formula (behind a vault walled in with concrete blocks, motion sensors and security cameras).
Jason Alexander used to promote their popcorn chicken in commercials.
George Hamilton, Norm MacDonald, and Jim Gaffigan all appeared in ads as the Colonel in a single year.
