Why he might be annoying:

He was often confused with the more famous Senator John Sherman who sponsored and authored the Sherman Antitrust Act.
He inherited his views of pro-business politics from his father.
He was one of the many congressional leaders swept out of Congress after the unsuccessful McKinley Tariff Act.
He brought very little appeal to the Taft ticket with barely anybody knowing who he was.
His middle name is Schoolcraft.

Why he might not be annoying:

His marble bust at the United States Capitol Building is the only vice presidential bust with glasses.
He attended Hamilton College, where he was 'the most popular man in his class.'
He was seen by Taft as someone who could deal with the Speaker of the House for him, but he refused, saying, 'I am to be Vice President and acting as a messenger is not part of the duties as Vice President.'
When he died during the election of 1912, he was not replaced and Taft ran alone.
Despite turning down Taft's assignment, the two both had a jovial spirit and worked well together.
