Actor
    (April 14, 1898-October 18, 1968)
    Born in Atlanta, Georgia
Birth name was William Lee Tracy
Appeared in the films ‘Born Reckless’ (1930), ‘She Got What She Wanted’ (1930), ‘Doctor X’ (1932), ‘Blessed Event’ (1932), ‘Washington Merry-Go-Round’ (1932), ‘Night Mayor’ (1932), ‘Clear All Wires!’ (1933), ‘The Nuisance’ (1933), ‘Advice to the Lovelorn’ (1933), ‘Dinner at Eight’ (1933), ‘Bombshell’ (1933), ‘Behind the Headlines’ (1937), ‘Fixer Dugan’ (1939), ‘Power of the Press’ (1943), ‘I’ll Tell the World’ (1945), ‘High Tide’ (1947), and ‘The Best Man’ (1964)

Portrayed the title role in ‘Martin Kane, Private Eye’ (1952-53)
He was typecast as a fast-talking reporter. (‘I should have quit paying newspapermen after three or four parts in the movies, but the money kept coming in and I liked it.’)
MGM dropped him from the movie ‘Viva Villa’ and tore up his contract over his behavior while filming in Mexico (1933). (According to the most colorful version of the tale, he urinated off a balcony onto the crowd below. The more likely story is that he responded to a heckler in the crowd with an obscene gesture, leading to an uproar when a local newspaper claimed Tracy had insulted the country.)
He was the third of four actors to portray Martin Kane in the TV series.
He served in the Army during both World Wars.
He received a New York Drama Critics Award for his performance in ‘Broadway.’
He was nominated for a Tony and an Oscar for ‘The Best Man.’
One critic wrote, ‘Even against co-stars like Jean Harlow, Lionel Atwill and John Barrymore, your eyes focus on Tracy and stay there.’
