The Resume

    (September 19, 1984-August 4, 1989)
    Aired on NBC
Set in various communities across the United States
    Michael Landon as Jonathan Smith
    Victor French as Mark Gordon
Premise: An angel on his probationary period is sent to Earth to help people in need, with the help of a former police officer

Why Highway to Heaven might be annoying:

Its cancellation ended Michael Landon's 30 year run on NBC.
Michael Landon only agreed to do the show if Victor French was cast alongside him.
It was assumed Michael opted to end the show after Victor's passing, when in reality, the show was slated to be cancelled at the end of the 1988-89 television season.
Mark often wore an Oakland Athletics hat, which looked faded and worn.
Some viewers assumed Michael was religious, due to the show's content.
Despite the show's themes, it was heavily influenced by the Western genre.

Why Highway to Heaven might not be annoying:

It was one of the first shows to deal with spiritual themes, prior to 'Touched by an Angel.'
Jonathan and Mark were often assigned jobs that were common for public service workers (ie. police officers, social workers) in order to reach out to people in need.
God was never addressed by name on the show, and would often be addressed as 'The Boss.'
Most of the show's humour came from the contrasting personalities between the two men.
Victor often credited Michael for having him cast as Mark, giving him a chance to break out of the villain roles he often played.
It was Victor's last acting job prior to his passing.
