Why she might be annoying:

    She was a Christian Scientist.
She is sometimes confused with Mildred Natwick.
In her early thirties, she ended up typecast as old schoolmarms and spinster aunts.
Despite working with greats like Tennessee Williams in a long and storied career, she is remembered almost exclusively as that old lady who gets pushed down the stairs in a wheelchair by Richard Widmark in Kiss of Death.
She said: 'I like to play parts that are not at all like myself. I'm not the least bit exciting.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a founding member of the Actors Studio.
She was a full-time schoolteacher before beginning her acting career.
She was twice nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, for 'Death of a Salesman' in 1951, and for 'Baby Doll' in 1956.
She was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for 'Baby Doll,' as well as 'Viva Zapata!' in 1952 and 'Peyton Place' in 1957.
She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1967, for Outstanding Single Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Drama for the television broadcast of 'Death of a Salesman.'
She received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Performance for her starring role in 'A Place Without Doors,' in 1971.
She was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 1983.
Her scene in Kiss of Death lasts all of two minutes but is the most memorable and famous scene in the film.
