The Resume

    Screenwriter and science fiction author
Screenwriting credits include 'The Big Sleep,' ' Rio Bravo,' 'The Long Goodbye' and 'The Empire Strikes Back'

Why she might be annoying:

Due to her first name many science fiction readers thought she was a man, a mistake she did nothing to correct.
She took a long break from writing from the mid-sixties to the early seventies.
There is considerable disagreement about how much she contributed to the screenplay of 'The Empire Strikes Back' with opinions ranging from none to considerable.
Except for 'The Empire Strikes Back,' none of her science fiction has been filmed.
Much of her science fiction is set in same universe, the Leigh Brackett Solar System, which features an inhabitable Mars, Venus and Mercury all of which were known to be uninhabitable in her time.
    Her middle name was Douglass.
She only won one major award, a Hugo for her disputed role as a screenwriter for The Empire Strikes Back.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was heavily influenced by Edgar Rice Burroughs.
She was a friend, mentor, and co-writer to a then up and coming young writer named Ray Bradbury.
When he read her detective novel, 'No Good From a Corpse,' director Howard Hawks hired her unseen to help William Faulkner write the screenplay for 'The Big Sleep' and was very surprised to find out she was a woman.
She wrote at a very high level in several different genres; sci-fi, detective, and western.
She wrote novels, screenplays, and short stories equally well.
She's one of the most successful women science fiction writers of all time.
She died tragically young of stomach cancer only a year after losing her husband.
