He frequently painted ‘Loplop’ and claimed it was a stand-in for himself.
He shocked people by painting the Virgin Mary beating the baby Jesus.
He co-founded the nonsensical art theory known as ‘Dada.’
He served in the German army during World War I.
He hated his father.

He has been called ‘the first Surrealist painter.’
His style was extremely influential.
He invented a new art technique called ‘frottage.’
