The Resume

    (March 22, 1968- )
    Based in Orlando, Florida
    Casual dining seafood restaurant chain
Founded by Bill Darden and Charley Woodsby
Services Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Japan, and the United States; 705 locations as of 2016
Parent company is Golden Gate Capital (acquired from Darden Restaurants on July 28, 2014)
Specializes in seafood, including lobster, shrimp, fish, crab, and mollusks
Attained a surge in popularity after being referenced by Beyonce in her unexpected release/performance of 'Formation' during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show (Feb. 2016)

Why Red Lobster might be annoying:

Its a Southern-based chain with New England decor.
In the late 80s, it was known for its intensive employee training programs.
It was the subject of a crazy Tim & Eric/Adult Swim comedy routine.
Their Cheddar Bay Biscuits have their own Facebook page (cult following).
Their profit margins plummeted over an all-you-can-eat 'Endless Crab' promotion failed in 2003.
The lobster in the company logo is actually the corporate mascot (his name is 'Clawde').
The Center for Science in the Public Interest awarded their 'Ultimate Feast Combo' the 2015 Xtreme Eating Awards' most unhealthy meal in fast food (with 6500 milligrams of sodium and 2700 calories).
Nicki Minaj was fired from five different locations (once for dropping a fingernail into someone's salad).
News outlets fell for a hoax story which claimed that a man slipped into a coma after consuming 413 Cheddar Bay Biscuits in one sitting.
After being referenced in Beyonce's Super Bowl performance, it took a whopping eight hours for them to engage with the crazy 'Bey Hive' fan base on Twitter (amounting days in the Twitterverse).
When they finally responded, most fans dismissed the tweet - 'cheddar bey biscuits have a nice ring to it' - as a missed opportunity to be edgy (what the hell did they expect from a family restaurant?)

Why Red Lobster might not be annoying:

It very arguably invented the 'popcorn shrimp' dish.
It is the world’s largest chain of casual seafood restaurants.
Its advertising team coined the term 'lobsterworthy.'
Chris Rock, Anna Nicole Smith, and MercyMe's Robby Shaffer are all former employees.
It has been credited to popularizing seafood to areas of the country that wouldn't have been as familiar with snow crab, calamari, or hush-puppies (particularly areas in the South/Midwest).
Apparently Beyonce takes Jay-Z there when he 'pleases her.'
It saw a 33% sales increase after being referenced in 'Formation.'
A fan-made internet sensation combines the Chick-fil-A patty with the Cheddar Bay Biscuit to make the 'Cheddar Bay Patty' (which apparently tastes great).
They were smart enough to market 'Cheddar Bay Biscuit' mix at stores nationwide (what with its having 1.1 million Facebook fans and all).
A Reddit blog went viral after a contributor took her recently widowed mother for her what would have been her 31st annual 'Red Lobster' anniversary dinner (a sympathetic server picked up the tab, leaving a sweet note on the receipt).
