    Hosted the television variety show In Melbourne Tonight (IMT) on Channel Nine (1957-1970)
    Hosted the Graham Kennedy Show (1972-1975)
    Known as the ‘King of Comedy’
    Had a part in the 1983 movie The Killing Fields'
    Won five gold Logie awards
    Portrayed by Actor Stephen Curry in the television movie ‘The King’ (2007)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a perfectionist.
    His middle name was Cyril.
    Despite his fame, he quit television in 1969 for two years, which he described as ‘years of misery’.
    He was banned from performing live on TV for making a crow sound which sounded reminiscent of the word ‘fuck’ during a live TV advert.
    He loathed the mass recognition that came with his fame and hated being noticed in public.
    His show 'In Melbourne Tonight' was a devised copy of the American 'Tonight Show.'
    He was a heavy smoker and drinker.
    Although it was strongly speculated, he never revealed that he was homosexual during his life.
    He advertised products from sponsors on his shows.
    He hosted the Australian version of ‘Funniest Home Videos.

    He was not afraid to push the boundaries on live television.
    He refused to speak with a British accent on his show, as other television and radio presenters in Australia did at the time.
    He played around and made fun of the products he advertised on his show.
    He was the face of Australian television in the sixties and seventies.
    He was good friends with television’s other known personalities, Bert Newton and Don Lane.
    Channel Nine’s owner hated him because of his homosexuality.
    He named the Logie Awards in honor of the television’s inventor John Logie Baird.
