A knee injury ended her skiing dreams.
Although she was the favorite to win the 1996 Olympic Mountain Bike Gold medal, she was a disappointment with a seventh place finish.

Cycling was used as her physical therapy and then she became competitive.
She is the first female to be named Velo News Cyclist of the Year (1993).
She was diagnosed with lupus and was force to retire (1997).
