Birth name was Lawrence Horne West
Owned the Utah Jazz (1986-2009) and Utah Starzz (1997-2001)
Also owned auto dealerships, a chain of sports clothing stores, movie theaters and KJZZ-TV

Why he might be annoying:

The NBA fined him $10,000 after he called Greg Anthony a 'cheap shot artist.'
During the 1994 Western Conference semifinals against the Nuggets, he grabbed a heckling Denver fan by the throat.
He pulled 'Brokeback Mountain' from his theater chains, saying 'To me, there are certain things that cross the line.'
Since his theaters were showing 'Hostel' at the time, he apparently felt murder and torture don't cross the line.

Why he might not be annoying:

In the 60s and 70s, he was an excellent fastpitch softball pitcher and he was inducted into the International Softball Hall of Fame.
He purchased the Jazz to keep them in Utah, saying 'I became acutely aware that if the Jazz ever got out of town and went to another market that in my lifetime, and probably my children's lifetime, they would never come back.'
Both his legs were amputated below the knees due to complications from diabetes (2008).
In the wake of the 'Brokeback' controversy, he met with gays and lesbians and said the incident gave him a greater understanding of the prejudices they face.
