Why she might be annoying:

    She said she probably would have won a third Olympic medal in downhill skiing, but her trainers applied the wrong wax to her skis.
    She noted that she rarely was recognized in public until she stopped competing and began appearing in TV commercials.
    She caught flak from environmentalists for years over a commercial for Mars in which she discarded a candy bar wrapper on the slopes.
    Some of the ski resorts she helped develop were opposed by environmentalists and Native Americans.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She has been married to Al Raine for over fifty years.
    After breaking her leg at age 17, she began weightlifting to regain strength, which was an uncommon practice for skiers at the time: 'I was probably always stronger pound for pound than the other athletes.'
    She was nicknamed Tiger for her aggressiveness on the slopes.
    She broke the European domination of alpine skiing when she won the 1967 World Cup.
    She twice won the Lou Marsh Trophy as outstanding Canadian athlete of the year (1967-68).
    In a poll by the Canadian Press and Broadcast News, she was named Canada's top female athlete of the 20th century.
