The Resume

    (May 18, 1911-August 14, 1969)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
Birth name was Sigrid Guri Haukelid
Appeared in the films 'The Adventures of Marco Polo' (1938), 'Algiers' (1938), 'The Forgotten Woman' (1939), 'Three Faces West' (1940), 'Voice in the Wind' (1944), 'Sword of the Avenger' (1948), and 'The Du Pont Story' (1950)

Why she might be annoying:

Sam Goldwyn hyped her as 'the Norwegian Garbo' and 'the Siren of the Fjords' until the press revealed that she had been born in Flatbush.
What better debut role for your 'Norwegian' discovery than an Oriental princess?
She was married and divorced three times.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was brought to Norway with her family at age three, lived in Oslo until age twenty, and held dual US-Norwegian citizenship, so promoting her as Scandinavian wasn't much of a stretch. (Calling her another Garbo on the other hand...)
Her twin brother, Knut Haukelid, was a member of the Norwegian resistance during World War II. She appeared in 'Kampen om tungtvannet' (1948), the Norwegian film adaptation of Knut's account of sabotaging a Nazi-controlled heavy water plant in Norway.
She painted pictures and designed jewelry after retiring from motion pictures.
