Why Cooperstown, New York might be annoying:

As of 2010, it sports only two gas stations (it once boasted over a dozen).
It also apparently sports only one supermarket (excluding the Great American converted to a Price Chopper on the outskirts of town).
It has traded on its status as 'the birthplace of Baseball' when it probably isn't.
The basis of the elaborate creation myth is that former Cooperstown resident Abner Doubleday set up the first 'baseball diamond' in a local cow pasture, as a boy.
No corresponding evidence exists to support the story, but that didn't stop residents from promoting it as proof that the town was the 'Bethlehem of Baseball' (with local businesses weary from the effects of both Prohibition and the Great Depression it proved to be a genius marketing strategy to boost tourism).

Why Cooperstown, New York might not be annoying:

It is the site of the first sports hall of fame.
Its sister city is Windsor, Nova Scotia (the alleged birthplace of hockey).
The town's Boy Scout Troop #1 is the longest-chartered troop in the United States.
Although he wasn't born there, James Fenimore Cooper (Judge Cooper's son) made his lifelong residence there and wrote most of the Leatherstocking Tales from his home there.
The Baseball Hall of Fame (which the town's name has become shorthand for) has attracted over 13 million since opening its doors.
Nearly 300,000 baseball fans a year make pilgrimage to the site to pay homage to their favorite baseball heroes.
The Busch family (Anheuser-Busch fame) did early business there - purchasing hops for its beer in the early 1880s, and they still hold estate in the area.
The Cooperstown Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (1980).
