Why he might be annoying:

    He never reached the major leagues as a player.
    His stints as a major league manager lasted no more then two seasons.
    He guided the Rangers to a 52-62 record, which was good enough for first place in the AL West (1994).
    That particular team led the AL West with a record that was worse than those of the Detroit Tigers and Milwaukee Brewers, who were last place in their respective divisions at the time of the shutdown.
    He went 0-3 with the Red Sox in his lone postseason appearance as a manager.
    He was fired by the Red Sox, despite guiding the team to a winning record in both his seasons at the helm.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was high school teammates with Milwaukee Brewers franchise great Robin Yount.
    He gradually worked his way up the managerial ranks over a ten year period, prior to landing with the Rangers.
    He was instrumental in the development of the Rangers young core in the mid 1990's.
    He guided the Red Sox to its first division title and playoff berth in five years in his first season at the helm.
    His insight and knowledge as a color analyst earned him the nickname 'The Skipper' by his peers.
