The Resume

    (circa 30- )
Christian ritual that involves immersing or submerging a person in water or sprinkling or pouring water on them, usually as part of a larger ceremony that may include making the sign of the cross, reciting the words, 'I baptize you in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit' or 'In the Name of Jesus' and is often part of an individual church's regularly scheduled worship services
Begun by Saint John the Baptist who baptized Jesus
Practiced by almost all Christian denominations, even pseudo-Christian religions such as Mormonism and the Jehovah's Witnesses

Why Baptism might be annoying:

There is widespread disagreement among the various Christian denominations about how to perform baptisms; fully submerging the baptizee versus pouring water on them, saying 'In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit' versus 'In the Name of Jesus,' baptizing children versus baptizing adults only etc.
There is also disagreement on the effect of baptism; the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches and some Protestant churches teach that it washes away original sin, although most protestant churches consider it simply a ceremony.
Some churches disagree so strongly that they rebaptize new members of their church even if they had been baptized previously in another church.
Baptisms are really tackily done in some churches, including dressing up in goofy robes and performing the baptism in swimming pools.
Some churches believe that unless you have been baptized, then you can't go to Heaven.

Why Baptism might not be annoying:

In his last words before He left Earth in the Gospel according to Matthew, Jesus commanded His followers to baptize one another.
It is the one act that universally defines and identifies Christians.
It is the oldest of Christian ceremonies and is usually the first one that a Christian experiences.
When done on small children, they sometimes throw fits and/or urinate, which has made for some hilarious moments on America's Funniest Home Videos.
If you have been baptized and are a Christian then you should act like a good person.
