Why he might not be annoying:

Trailing 2-0, after fouling a ball off his foot, he hit a three run home run for the Yankees in a single game playoff against the Red Sox. The Yankees maintained the lead winning 5-4 launching them into the league championship playoffs (October 2, 1978).
It is considered one of the most famous home runs in baseball history.
He led the Yankees with 10 hits in the 1978 World Series.
During Denis Leary's set on Comics Come Home, Leary's background was the scoreboard before his at bat.
He walked on stage during Leary's set and handed him a Yankees jersey.
