    Wrote the young adult novels 'Aquamarine' (2001), 'Indigo' (2002), 'Green Angel' (2003), 'Green Witch' (2010), and 'Green Heart' (2012)
    Wrote the children's books 'Fireflies: A Winter's Tale' (1999), 'Horsefly' (2000), and 'Moondog' (2004)
    She had wanted to drop out of high school, had no plans to attend college, and never took the SATs.
    She changed her mind after realizing 'studying was easier than working.'
    It took her years to be comfortable calling herself a writer: 'I used to tell people I was a typist.'
    She sometimes cries while writing her books.
    Her favorite books are 'Wuthering Heights,' 'The Catcher in the Rye,' and the works of Ray Bradbury.
    Toni Morrison called 'The Dovekeepers' 'a major contribution to 21st century literature.'
    She donated the advance fees for one of her novels to fund the Hoffman Breast Center at Mount Auburn Hospital after being treated for breast cancer.
