    Born in McEwan, Tennessee
Birth name was Walter Ralph Emery
    Disc jockey and television host
Disc jockey on WSM in Nashville

Why he might be annoying:

A hostile interview with the Byrds (during their country-rock phase) inspired Roger McGuinn to dis him in the song ‘Drug Store Truck Driving Man.’
He co-hosted ‘Nashville Now’ with a puppet named Shotgun Red.
His ex-wife, country singer Skeeter Davis, claimed that he ‘could hardly stand’ country music and called the singers ‘hillbillies’ behind their backs.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father was an abusive alcoholic.
Skeeter Davis said, ‘I’ll never deny that Ralph Emery is the best disc jockey around. He was then, he is now.’
Barbara Mandrell organized a televised salute to him and seventy top country stars showed up to pay tribute.
In an industry poll, he was named country radio’s ‘personality of the century.’
