    He was nicknamed 'Oom Paul' for his height and his weight of 205 pounds.
    The 1933 season was his worst season as he lost 27 games with the Cardinals and the Reds.
    He was belligerent both inside and outside the ballpark.
    He was the losing pitcher of Game 1 of the World Series three times (1931, 1939-40).
    He didn't have a good relationship with Dizzy Dean in St. Louis.
    He got into a brawl with an associate of New York Mayor Fiorello Laguardia at a hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    He refused to pay $8,100 for the damages following the assault case (May 10, 1939).

    He was one of the first two pitchers inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame.
    He helped the Reds win the 1940 World Series as he bounced back by winning Game 4 and 7 of the series.
    He was the NL sacrifice hits leader for pitchers with 17 (1939).
