Why he might be annoying:

    He got to play on his first session, for the Mamas and the Papas, because he was in a band whose lead singer was also John Phillips’ drug dealer.
    He was nicknamed ‘Captain Fingers.’
    He is a one-hit wonder on the pop charts, with ‘Is It You’ his only Top 40 single (1981).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He has played on over 3,000 sessions, working with everyone from Barbara Streisand to Pink Floyd.
    AllMusic noted, ‘[His] speed, facility, phrasing, and technique are always flawless.’
    His house in Malibu was destroyed by a wildfire, resulting in the loss of his home studio, 100 guitars, and 40 amps (2018).
    A week after the fire, he underwent surgery to replace an aortic valve.
