The Resume

    (1949- )
Worked for Yellow Freight Systems (1977-1979)
    Wal-Mart (1979-present)
    Named Wal-Mart CEO in 2000

Why he might be annoying:

He is the CEO of the company that many people accuse of destroying fair capitalism.
He leads the biggest company in the history of the world, yet according to a speech he gave in Puerto Rico in 2005, executives and representatives are encouraged to steal the pens from hotel rooms to use as office pens when they return to Arkansas.
His company routinely drives Mom & Pop stores out of business, crucifying small towns.
On his watch, Wal-Mart has been involved in lawsuits ranging from racial/gender discrimination to not paying workers, not patrolling their parking lots for crime, and pollution.
EPA officials claim that Wal-Mart is the most flagrant violator of their regulations.
Because his company buys in such bulk, small merchants have actually said it is cheaper to buy certain goods from Wal-Mart to stock their shelves than it is to buy from a distributor.
He traded in his BMW for a used Volkswagen to keep with the ‘Wal-Mart image,' but his McMansion home is a gated gargantuan compound.
His company preached ‘Made in the USA' for years, but sends over $18 billion annually to China for goods.
As of early 2006, 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of Wal-Mart, but he has said he wants to double in size by 2010.
As is the case with anyone at the Wal-Mart corporate level, he is vehemently anti-union.
In 2005, when a Wal-Mart in Jonquiere, Quebec successfully voted to go union, he ordered the store to be shut down; claiming it was losing money. Wal-Mart will not release the information, but it is believed to be the only time they have ever closed one of their own stores.

Why he might not be annoying:

He comes from a humble background and made tire molds to help pay his way through college. For that task, he was paid $1.95 an hour and lived in a trailer at the time.
He helped develop an automated distribution system that linked suppliers and stores by computer.
He is quite possibly the only CEO of a major company ever to have driven a delivery truck for that company.
He is said to be tough but fair, and will talk and listen to associates at the stores he visits.
