Why they might be annoying:

They took their name from the then-uncaught Green River Killer.
During their 1985 tour, their station wagon veered into a ditch, reportedly as a result of Gossard lighting one of his farts on fire and startling Arm, who was behind the wheel. (Note: Arm has denied the story.)
Turner left the group because he disliked the other members’ heavy metal leanings.
They broke up before the release of their only full-length studio album because Arm objected to Goddard and Ament’s desire to sign with a major label.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their ‘Come on Down’ EP is regarded as the first grunge record.
Pitchfork wrote, ‘Green River’s songs have aged better than many of their contemporaries.’
Sonic Youth quoted ‘Come on Down’ in their song ‘Nevermind (What Was It Anyway).’
Arm and Turner formed Mudhoney while Fairweather, Ament, and Gossard formed Mother Love Bone (followed by Ament and Gossard joining Pearl Jam).
