The Resume

    (July 13, 1991- )
    Born in Phoenix, Arizona
Acted in 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel,' 'In Time,' 'Straight Outta Compton,' 'House of Anubis,' and 'Drumline: A New Beat'
Portrayed Aaliyah Haughton in the Lifetime biopic 'Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B' (2015)
Also known for playing the mutant superhero Ororo 'Storm' Munroe in 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (2016)

Why she might be annoying:

She starred in the universally panned 'Aaliyah' biopic, in the title role.
She started out in episodes of ‘Days of Our Lives.’
She's an aspiring musician who writes 'R&B kirtan.'
Some of her fans have criticized her for coming off as cocky.
She landed the role after both Keshia Chante and Zendaya walked off the project, both citing issues with production.
Critics of the film mostly complained that not only was her singing not on Aaliyah's level, but that she bore no physical resemblance to the R&B legend.
She had friends come over to drink vodka while videotaping the shaving of her head for the role of young Storm.
She said an interview that she feared she may have scared off Halle Berry from helping her prepare for the Storm part, after sending her a long, gushing email.
There was an uproar on social media over her being chosen to portray Storm, a native Kenyan, when Shipp was herself light-skinned American (in the end, it didn't matter in the slightest, as the film bombed critically and commercially).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She is fluent in Sanskrit.
Her mother is a Kundalini yoga teacher and her uncle is a Vedic astrologer.
She spent her early years in Los Angeles working as a waitress, a live-in nanny, and a mobile pet groomer.
She's a fan of Janis Joplin and Elvis Presley.
She was an Honoree guest at the Variety Power of Women luncheon (2014).
She received rave reviews for portraying Ice Cube’s wife, Kim Woodruff, in 'Straight Outta Compton.'
She joked about adjusting to a buzz cut by reasoning 'showers are so much faster than they used to be.'
Her attempts to meet with both the Haughton family to communicate her good intentions went unanswered.
Many fans defended her Aaliyah performance, citing that with the film's production values it would have flopped regardless.
Ironically, the panned performance got her a greater amount of exposure than a litany of glowing reviews from critics.
