    He began stealing cars at age 12.
    As an adult, his longest stint outside jail lasted three years.
    He specialized in robbing pharmacies.
    He was caught by police in a drugstore having fallen asleep with loot worth $10,000 stuffed in paper bags.
    He preferred taking morphine and opiates but would also do cocaine and heroin.
    The Los Angeles Times wrote that he 'blew every chance he had to go straight.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was beaten by his father.
    William S. Burroughs praised 'Drugstore Cowboy' for its 'hallucinatory reality.'
    'Drugstore Cowboy' was the basis for a critically acclaimed Gus Van Sant film (1989).
