Best known for his role as Capt. Frank Furillo on the NBC TV series 'Hill Street Blues' (1981-87)
Acted in 'Who Killed Teddy Bear (1965),' 'St. Ives (1976),' 'It's My Turn (1980),' 'Adam (1983),' 'Adam: His Song Continues (1986),' 'Millennium (1989),' 'Just Cause (1995)' and 'To Sir, With Love II (1996)'

Why he might be annoying:

He's been credited under many different names, including Dan Travanti, Daniel Travanty, Danny Travanty, Dan Travanty and Don Travanty.
He is an alcoholic.
He finally sought help for his alcoholism in 1973 after he had a breakdown and collapse during the middle of a stage performance.
Though he had some steamy love scenes with Veronica Hamel in 'Hill Street Blues,' his sexual orientation has come under scrutiny.

He turned down several football scholarships so he could pursue acting.
He studied acting at the Yale School of Drama and earned a master's degree in English literature from Loyola of Marymount.
He won two Emmys and a Golden Globe Award for his work on 'Hill Street Blues.'
His portrayal of John Walsh in the made-for-TV movie 'Adam' and its sequel earned praise from critics and from Walsh himself.
