    His works were little more than a combination of the philosophies of St. Augustine and Rene Descartes.
    Most of his writings trying to defend Cartesian dualism.
    Until recently, his writings have been largely ignored by Anglo-American philosophers.
    Gottfried Von Leibniz pretty much tore his conception of dualism to shreds.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a talented mathematician.
    He was a major influence on subsequent French philosophy.
