Why he might be annoying:

He divorced his pregnant wife to marry his mistress.
Government officials were required to 'donate' ten percent of their salaries to his political party.
He ordered the massacre of tens of thousands of Haitians living in his country.
Behind his back, he was called 'Chapitas' ('Bottlecaps') for the excessive number of medals he wore.
He had the capital renamed Cuidad Trujillo, named the highest mountain Pico Trujillo and ordered churches to post the slogan 'God in Heaven, Trujillo on Earth.'
He tried to assassinate Venezuelan President Ronulo Betancourt with a car bomb.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was praised for efficiently rebuilding the capital after a destructive hurricane (1930).
During the years before World War II, he accepted Jewish refugees from Europe and exiles from the Spanish Civil War.
The CIA provided his opponents some of the weapons used in the assassination.
When he was ambushed, he got out of his limo to exchange gunfire with his assassins.
