Why he might be annoying:

He had sex with many of his models.
He called his wife 'Guggum.'
Years after his wife died, he had her coffin dug up so he could get some poems, buried with her, out of it.
He had an affair with a close friend's wife.
He was a junkie, with ether being his drug of choice.
He was often seen drunk or stoned in public.
He became obsessed with the supernatural, and would try to contact his wife through seances.
He kept woodchucks as house pets.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was an insomniac.
His only child was stillborn, due to his wife's laudanum addiction.
His wife eventually died of an overdose.
He wasn't afraid to talk about sex, which often shocked Victorian society.
Both his paintings and his poems are still studied today.
