The Resume

    (1965-1968)
Born in New York City, New York
Australian brothers Giles, Miles and Niles Strange
Actually were American songwriter/producers Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein and Richard Gottherer
Recorded the singles 'I Want Candy,' 'Cara-Lin' and 'Night Time' (all 1965)

Why they might be annoying:

They claimed to come from Australia after deciding that American acts were passe following the British invasion.
Miles (Bob Feldman) claimed to be a champion boomerang thrower; demonstrating his technique on a live TV show, he hit and knocked down the cameraman.
They turned down an offer to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show because Gottherer did not want his grandmother to see him on TV wearing a leopard-skin outfit.
After one tour opening for the Beach Boys, they hired a band to pose as the Strangeloves for future live shows.
'I Want Candy' is probably better remembered as a Bow Wow Wow song even though the Strangeloves' original was a bigger chart hit.

Why they might not be annoying:

They took their name from the Stanley Kubrick film 'Dr. Strangelove.'
'I Want Candy' brought the Bo Diddley beat back to the pop charts.
Before forming the Strangeloves, they jointly wrote and produced the Angels' #1 hit 'My Boyfriend's Back.'
While touring, they discovered Rick Derringer and the McCoys and produced their #1 hit 'Hang on Sloopy.'
Gottherer became a major figure in New Wave music, producing the debut albums by Blondie and the Go-Go's and co-founding Sire Records.
