    He severely injured the thumb on his left hand, to the point where it was uncertain if he could continue to play the mandolin.
    He enjoys rifle shooting in his spare time.

    He worked as a carpenter, prior to pursuing a career in music.
    He restores antique cars in his spare time.
    He was a member of J.D. Crowe and The New South, prior to joining Diamond Rio.
    He was able to recover from his injuries sustained in his carpentry accident and continue to play the mandolin without any issues.
    He was able to make the transition from bluegrass to country music seamlessly.
