Why he might be annoying:

He sought to minimize banking competition.
He had a dangerous amount of influence over the financial market.
The US government charged two of his companies with anti-trust violations; he lost one of the cases.

Why he might not be annoying:

His policies protected his investors.
He created US Steel, the first billion-dollar company.
He promoted the formation of General Electric.
He saved the banking industry from ruin by organizing bankers to bail out each other when customers withdrew vast sums of money (1907).
Many non-profit organizations such as the American Museum of Natural History benefited from his philanthropy.
After his death, his vast art collection was donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
His private library was made a public institution.
He suffered from rhinopliny which disfigure his nose.
