The Resume

    (December 6, 1949-April 10, 1986)
Born in Mount Airy, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania
    Middle name was Diane
With Michael Masser co-wrote 'The Greatest Love of All'
Other songs include 'You Are Everything,' 'Betcha by Golly, Wow,' 'Break Up to Make Up,' 'People Make the World Go Round,' 'You Make Me Feel Brand New,' and 'I'm Stone in Love with You' and 'Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)'

Why she might be annoying:

    She looked like Karen Carpenter.
As a songwriter, she was practically a one-hit wonder.
Her output was almost exclusively limited to working with Philadelphia-based labels and artists.

Why she might not be annoying:

She had a successful partnership with Thom Bell and Phyllis Hyman.
Her first collaboration with Bell, 'Stop, Look, Listen,' became a Top 40 hit for the Stylistics.
She wrote the words to 'Greatest Love of All' after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The song - recorded by George Benson for a Muhammad Ali biopic - reached #2 on the Billboard R&B chart.
She died from breast cancer in April of 1986, mere weeks apart from when Whitney Houston's cover of the song would reach #1 on charts worldwide and become one of the biggest hits of her career.
Her family and friends established the Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation.
She was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992.
The song's closing line 'And if, by chance, that special place/That you've been dreaming of/Leads you to a lonely place/Find your strength in love' was reflective of her struggle was breast cancer.
