The Resume

    (March 30, 2001-July 26, 2017)
    Aired on Nickelodeon
    Created by Butch Hartman
    Set in Dimmsdale, California (fictitious)
First aired as six minute shorts on 'Oh Yeah! Cartoons'
Voices provided by Tara Strong (Timmy Turner), Susanne Blakeslee (Wanda), Daran Norris (Cosmo), Grey DeLisle (Vicky), and Carlos Alazraqui (Denzel Crocker)
Premise: 10 year-old Timmy is gifted with a set of fairy godparents to contend with bullies and an evil babysitter

Why Fairly OddParents might be annoying:

    One word: Chloe.
It was cancelled by Nick five times.
It made a punchline out of bullying and child neglect.
Its own fans concede it jumped the shark by season six.
The running joke of Timmy's dad being a closeted cross-dresser/potential kid diddler wouldn't be greenlit today (for a number of reasons).
The decisions to A) have Wanda give birth to 'Poof' in a Growing Pains-like attempt to boost ratings with younger audiences, B) give Timmy a magical 'Fairy dog' named Sparky, and C) make Timmy share his godparents with a static stepford child named Chloe, were all attributed to executive meddling (according to Butch Hartman).
It spawned three high-rated low-quality TV movies starring Drake Bell as Timmy.
Vicky went from being a normal disgruntled babysitter with a chip on her shoulder to a supervillain hellbent on world domination.
A line in one episode had Wanda admit that she and Cosmo were responsible for the assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand (and thusly two World Wars and the Holocaust).

Why Fairly OddParents might not be annoying:

Its humor appealed to children and adults alike.
It is the show that came the closest to breaking Spongebob Squarepants' stranglehold over the network.
It centers on a universal premise (what kid doesn't fantasize about having -- Fairy Godparents!?)
It gifted the internet with at least one memorable meme ('Dinkleberg!!')
Chip Skylark (voiced by Chris Kirkpatrick) was a parody of the 90s 'boy band' teen idol.
It had a pretty awesome soundtrack, most notably the songs 'My Shiny Teeth and Me' and 'Icky Vicky.'
Its theme song was infectiously catchy to kids (Obtuse! Rubber Goose! Green Moose! Guava Juice!).
Its popularity saved it from cancellation multiple times.
It expanded its universe with a series of hit specials (the Timmy Turner Power Hour movies, Channel Chasers, School's Out: The Musical, etc.).
Mary Kay Bergman voiced Timmy for the original cartoon shorts, but died before she could reprise it for the show.
