    Presented the BBC's coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show (1983-2013)
    Hosted 'Gardener's World' (1996-2002), 'Ground Force' (1997-2002), 'The Alan Titchmarsh Show' (2007-14), and 'Love Your Garden' (2011- )
    In addition to several gardening books, wrote eleven romantic novels and a volume of poetry
    Named a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE, 2000)

Why he might be annoying:

    He admits to crying over 'Pretty Woman.'
    He was the model for Adidas' Gardening Club 'horti-couture' line. (The Guardian described the ad as 'Alan Titchmarsh grinning in a pair of trainers he appears to have stolen from a teenager.')
    He dismissed complaints that older women are discriminated against on television as 'whingeing' and added, 'They don't complain in their early days when they are disporting themselves on sports cars.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is a trustee of the charity Seeds for Africa.
    He received the Royal Horticultural Society's highest award, the Victoria Medal of Honor (2004).
    When Queen Elizabeth II presented him with his MBE, she noted that he had given 'a lot of ladies a lot of pleasure.'
    In a possibly related item, Madame Tussaud's London museum reports that his wax figure has to be regularly cleaned to remove the lipstick traces left by visitors kissing it.
