Tennis Player

The Resume

    (October 9, 1967- )
    Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
    US Open semi-finalist (1984)
Won two Women's Tennis Association (WTA) titles
    Highest ranking: #8 (March, 1985)
Two-time Canadian Female Athlete of the Year (1983,1985)
Appeared in the film 'Spring Fever' (1982)
Married fellow tennis player Robert Seguso (1987)
Inducted into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame (2001)

Why she might be annoying:

She came from a rich family known as 'Canada's Rockefellers.'
    She was nicknamed 'Darling Carling.'
She has been called 'the Anna Kournikova of her generation,' since her popularity was based on her looks as much as her tennis.
She suffered bulimia, with her weight eventually dropping to 96 pounds.
Largely because of the eating disorder, she never lived up to the potential she showed as a teen, when she was widely predicted to be a future #1 player.
She said, 'Tennis was great to me. But I do kick myself in the butt sometimes thinking how much better I could have been.'

Why she might not be annoying:

When not on the tennis tour, she had a $10-a-week allowance.
She was named the WTA's Most Impressive Newcomer (1983).
She had a successful second career as an Eileen Ford model.
She was described as having 'a disarming teenaged innocence to her.' (Perhaps best shown in a post-match interview when Bud Collins remarked, 'I didn't know you were this good' and she cheerfully replied, 'Neither did I!')
She did win two WTA titles, which is two more than Anna Kournikova managed.
She said sympathetically about Kournikova, 'Multiply the attention I got by fifty and you've got Anna. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes.'
