Why he might be annoying:

His attempt to become the first black student at the University of Mississippi failed.
He rejected an offer to join Martin Luther King's Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC).
He resisted an attempt by the SCLC to launch a voter registration drive in Jackson, Mississippi, because he wanted to maintain control over the local movement.
He risked his life despite having three young children.

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned two Bronze Stars in World War II.
He led the campaign that got James Meredith admitted to Ole Miss.
After a Molotov cocktail was thrown at his carport, he said 'If I die, it will be in a good cause.'
After his funeral, thousands of protesters took to the streets of Jackson, chanting 'After Medgar, no more fear.'
Forty years after the assassination, his brother Charles observed, 'Medgar and I said many years ago, if we ever end the violent racism in this state, it'll be the greatest state in the world to live. And now Medgar, I know you're gone, but I'm telling you, it's come to pass.'
