The Resume

    (July 19, 1919-March 31, 2010)
    Born in Buckingham County, Virginia
    White House butler
Held the job from 1952 to 1986
Worked for Presidents Truman through Reagan
Inspiration for the movie 'The Butler'

Why he might be annoying:

His life was turned into an Oscar bait vehicle.
He looked more like Sherman Hemsley than he did Forest Whitaker.
He turned down an invite to attend John F. Kennedy's funeral because 'someone had to be at the White House to serve everyone after they came from the funeral.'
For some reason Lee Daniels decided to invent an entirely new composite character, rather than just do a story about Eugene (who was interesting enough on his own), and to add drama between him and his activist son which never actually happened.

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked as a waiter for many years at white-only country clubs.
He never missed a day of work in 34 years.
He reportedly influenced President Eisenhower's position on segregation after explaining to him why the Nat King Cole Show was canceled because the network couldn't find sponsors in Southern states.
He was the first White House butler ever to be invited as a guest to a state dinner.
He came to national attention after a Washington Post story detailed his plans to vote for Obama in the 2008 election.
As the story went, the morning before Election day, he woke up to find his wife had died in her sleep. He went to vote the next day alone.
The story resulted in Allen receiving an invite to attend President-elect Obama's 2009 inauguration ceremony.
