Why he might be annoying:

He had a dorky nickname.
His initials were A.B.C.
For six months, he served as simultaneously as a senator and baseball commissioner.
He eventually resigned from the Senate to concentrate on baseball, as if the sport was more important than national affairs.
He ran many long-shot political campaigns during his latter years.
George Wallace seriously considered him as a running mate during a presidential run (1968).

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his nickname due to his perpetual and infectious smile.
His personality was the exact opposite of commissioner predecessor, Kenesaw Mountain Landis.
He oversaw the integration of Major League Baseball with Jackie Robinson in 1947.
He said, 'I don't believe in barring Negroes from baseball just because they are Negroes.'
He instituted a minimum player wage and pension.
Due to his standing up for blacks and other disenfranchised players, the owners forced him to resign as commissioner.
He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame (1982).
