The Resume

    (November 17, 1945- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Directed the films 'The Killing Fields' (1984), 'The Mission' (1986), 'Fat Man and Little Boy' (1989), 'City of Joy' (1992), 'The Scarlet Letter' (1995), 'Goodbye Lover' (1999), 'Captivity' (2007), 'There Be Dragons' (2010) and 'The Lovers' (2013)

Why he might be annoying:

He had a daughter out of wedlock with actress Cherie Lunghi.
After his first two films, he helmed a series of critical and box office bombs.
He said the success of his first two films was 'an albatross round one's neck.' (Frankly, we would have thought being known as 'the guy who tarted up 'The Scarlet Letter' with a nude scene and a happy ending' would be a bigger albatross, but what do we know?)
After it flopped in America, his debasement of 'The Scarlet Letter' became the first film by a major studio to be released to British theaters without any screenings for critics.
He said, 'I know from being a director that self-absorption and self-love are very close.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Shortly before his 28th birthday, he became the youngest director hired by Britain's National Theatre.
He was nominated for Oscars as Best Director for 'The Killing Field' and 'The Mission.'
Spalding Gray said, 'He has the demeanor of Christ, the eyes of Rasputin and the body of Zorro.'
He is a board member of Operation USA, a nonprofit organization providing privately funded disaster relief, humanitarian aid and development funds.
He said, 'Each movie is a chance to do something different and interesting.'
