    Its full name is Krowlewskie Stoleczne Miasto Krakow.
    It was allegedly built on the lair of a dragon poisoned by a Polish prince.
    Its large Jewish population was virtually annihilated during World War 2.
    Its suburb Plaszow was the site of a Nazi concentration camp.
    Its legendary hero the Trumpeter of Krakow was the creation of an American author in the 1920s.

    It is a major center of Polish culture.
    Its historic architecture survived World War 2 largely intact.
    It was here that Oskar Schindler saved hundreds of his Jewish factory workers.
