Why he might be annoying:

    His tenure with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks ended by injuries.
    Prior to joining the majors, he joked about being registered as 'George McKensely' ('JOH-JI MA-ken-ji').
    He is nicknamed 'Jo-mama' by some of his teammates whenever he's called out.
    During a 2009 World Baseball Classic game, he was ejected in the 7th inning for arguing about a third strike (March 17, 2009).

    He has a museum named in his honor in Sasebo, Japan.
    He was the first Japanese catcher to field in the majors.
    He recorded 147 hits in one season, establishing an AL rookie record for hits by a catcher.
    His reason for signing with Seattle was because his family liked the city's Japanese supermarket Uwajimaya.
    He teamed up with Ichiro Suzuki as they became the first pair of Japanese position players to be part of an MLB starting lineup.
    During his first two games in the majors, he hit a home run in each game.
    He learned to speak English and Spanish in order to talk with pitchers in the majors.
    During his first World Baseball Classic appearance, he helped the Japan National Team win their second World Baseball Classic championship title (2009).
