Why he might be annoying:

Some sources had his date of birth as April 20th, 1899.
He lost to Walter Hagen in the 1926 PGA Championship, 5&3.
He never won the U.S. Open and the British Open as he only made a runner-up finish.
He was the namesake for a strange putting style he performed with his elbows downwards called 'Diegeling.'
He suffered a career-ending nerve injury through a play wrestling incident with a friend.

Why he might not be annoying:

He beat so many in the 1925 Florida Open to secure a victory.
Before winning back-to-back PGA Championship titles, he defeated Walter Hagen and Gene Sarazen in the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of the tournament.
He helped the U.S. team win two Ryder Cups (1927 and 1931).
He was one of the golfers who participated in the very first Masters Tournament.
