The Resume

    (February 28, 1820-February 25, 1914)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Cartoonist for Punch magazine (1850-1901)
Illustrated Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-Glass'

Why he might be annoying:

He was reluctant to take the job at Punch because he wanted to pursue 'high art.'
He worried about having to produce humorous cartoons, asking a friend, 'Do they suppose that there is anything funny about me?'
In his editorial cartoons, he depicted Irish nationalists as ape-like savages.
Lewis Carroll complained, 'He drew several pictures of Alice entirely out of proportion -- head decidedly too large and feet decidedly too small.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He had his first exhibition of his paintings when he was 16.
He was blinded in one eye in a fencing accident (1840).
    He had a photographic memory.
His 'Alice' illustrations are among the most famous in children's literature.
