    Its name is a mouthful to pronounce.
    Despite serving as Alabama’s capital city, state lawmakers elected to relocate its operations from the city to Montgomery (1846).
    The city’s economy collapsed dramatically following the announcement.
    It sustained serious damage to some of its notable infrastructure during the Civil War.
    It was the site of a Civil Rights protest when Autherine Lucy was de-enrolled from the University of Alabama, after it was revealed she was black (1952).
    It was the site of the infamous ‘Stand in the Schoolhouse Door’ protest, when state governor George Wallace attempted to block the entrance of the university’s auditorium in order to prevent desegregation from happening (June 11, 1963).
    The ‘Bloody Tuesday’ protest happened here (June 9, 1964).
    It suffered mass devastation after an EF4 tornado struck the city (April 27, 2011).
    It is prone to both severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.
    It is home to a massive amount of churches, due to its location in the Bible Belt.

    It took its name after the Muskegoan chief, Tuskaloosa.
    It earned the nickname ’The Druid City’ due to its significant water oak tree population in the city’s downtown.
    It served as the first capital of Alabama, when it entered the constitution.
    Its population and economy rebounded immensely in the years after the city lost its capital status to Montgomery.
    It has a diverse economy stemming from the research to the industrial sectors.
    It was the site of the 2008 United States Olympic triathlon qualifiers.
    It has a hot humid subtropical climate, due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico.
    The famed Alabama Crimson Tide football program is based here.
    Bear Bryant and Nick Saban established themselves as NCAA football coaching legends here.
